BKage Underwear: Choosing the Right Fabric for Men’s Boxer Brief Underwear

When creating your very own unique and personalized custom men’s boxer briefs, you will quickly realize that there are many different choices and options to choose from — it can be a bit overwhelming!

The most important choice you can make when creating personalized boxer briefs is the fabric type. You want to ensure that your boxer briefs are stylish, well-fitting, but most of all, comfortable.

Men’s boxer briefs are available in a number of different types of fabric, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. Which fabric is right for you?

Cotton

Cotton is one of the most widely used materials for all types of clothing, men’s boxer briefs included! Cotton is a natural fiber, made from cotton plants that people have been successfully cultivating for hundreds of years.

Some of the best advantages of using cotton fabric for personalized boxer briefs is that it is very comfortable, naturally soft, hypoallergenic, and it can be dyed in nearly every color. Additionally, it is one of the most sustainable types of fabric due to its natural qualities. The best thing about cotton is that it has small pores that allow for airflow, which make it a very breathable material and one of the best fabrics for men’s underwear.

The biggest drawbacks for using cotton in custom men’s boxer briefs is that while it is forgiving, it is not as stretchy as other types of fabric and can become warped in the wash. Additionally, cotton is a knit fabric, which does not lend itself well to intricate custom designs. Worst of all, though cotton is breathable, it is very absorbent which makes it unpleasant to wear during activities that make you sweat, like exercising.

Polyester

Polyester is another frequently used fabric for men’s boxer briefs. Unlike cotton, polyester is a completely man made material that is created from a chemical reaction between petroleum, air, and water. Despite being completely synthetic, polyester is one of the softest materials. Unfortunately, that does mean it is not a sustainable fabric because it relies on fossil fuel as a refined ingredient.

Polyester is far less bulky than cotton, making it a great choice for men’s boxer briefs, especially if they will be worn under tight pants. Additionally, they dry much more quickly than cotton materials. However, polyester is not an absorbent material and is often a bit less breathable than its cotton counterparts, so it is not the best choice of fabric for exercise clothes or to wear on hot, muggy days.

Polyester is usually very stretchy and has a smoother knit, meaning that it is a great choice for custom or personalized men’s boxer briefs with intricate colors and designs.

Cotton and Spandex Blend

Some of the most popular fabric choices for personalized boxer briefs are a mix of multiple materials. Cotton and spandex, sometimes referred to as “jersey”, is a great example of this. Cotton and spandex mix maintains the same benefits as cotton, such as breathability, soft to the touch, and absorbency. The addition of spandex into the material adds superior stretch, making it a great choice for custom men’s boxer briefs because it ensures the wearer will be able to move freely while still being supported.

Unfortunately, because cotton and spandex material usually has a higher percentage of cotton (usually around 90% cotton and 10% spandex) it is still a less refined knit, meaning that many complex custom designs may not translate as well as they could on a more refined material, like polyester.

Polyester and Spandex Blend

Similar to the cotton spandex blend, polyester and spandex is a mixed fabric that offers the wearer benefits of both materials. Like polyester, polyester and spandex is a touchably soft synthetic material with moisture wicking properties. The addition of spandex makes custom men’s boxer briefs made of this material extremely stretchy and lightweight, but still lacks the breathability of cotton or other cotton blends.

However, polyester and spandex are both tightly knit, lightweight materials, which makes them optimal for personalized boxer briefs that have intricate designs with many colors. Just be sure to order the correct size — polyester spandex boxer briefs that are too small may stretch too much and distort your chosen design.
